Thomas Williamson

I'm Thomas, a PhD student in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. I completed my undergaduate degree at Durham University.

My research is in soft matter and biological physics, focusing on biomolecular condensates or 'membraneless organelles', which are often produced by liquid-liquid phase separation of biomolecules such as particular proteins within a cell. In particular, we are looking to understand how the structure and composition of condensates affects their mechanical properties and develop techniques to measure these. Most of my work is computational, though I work very closely with experimentalists (particularly in biology).

I am a member of Halim Kusumaatmaja's group in Edinburgh but also work very closely with Sushma-Nagaraja Grellscheid's group at the University of Bergen in Norway.
